The Composite transition combines the video data from two video tracks into one. This transition is used in combination with Alpha Channel information supplied by one of the Alpha Manipulation Effects or by the use of a Wipe Vauxhall combo 2003 fuse box layout full version. The compositor is among the most vital components for good desktop UX on Linux. A compositor is an application that gives each window a buffer to render to.
Linux Desktop Compositors — Performance and Functionality
Each buffer is put into one final image that the compositor outputs to the display. Each frame of each running application goes through the compositor. A well-written compositor is critical for a smooth desktop experience. Compositing offers two main benefits. Vertical synchronization, or vsync, prevents screen tearing by waiting on the display to update before updating the display.
Compositors can also add effects like transparency, animations, and blur. MacOS has used the Quartz Compositor since its initial release of On Linux, most desktop environments include a compositor, but performance varies on differing hardware. Despite its position as the default environment in most major Linux distributions, GNOME still has some serious performance problems. At the heart of these is the design of its window manager, Mutter. Lots of core functionality is done on the same thread as the compositor.

Would it be possible with a follow-up post listing which drivers support which backends? Perhaps also which backend is recommended for each driver.

After a while many days of running the task bar stops working properly. This is due to some sort of undiagnosed bug but that's really not my boggle at the moment. It's fixed as soon as I log out and in again.
I have to close everything and ongoing processes like virtual machines have to shut down. It's a big pain. It typically means I put up with a bit of flickering for many days.
If you use it that way it 's run as an independed service not connected to the current terminal session meaning you can close the terminal without the process getting terminated. This reloads KDE's compositor and that seems to fix the flickering. I guess it's a factor into my particular issue. I looked this up because I had an issue where I couldn't open any KDE settings menus, but I didn't really want to reboot or log out. Even though you seemed to resolve your issue, I figured I would post it for people coming along in the future needing to restart plasma.

Sometimes helping KWin on what the hardware really supports can improve the performance. It is important to have the correct driver installed and used.
If no driver or the wrong driver is used the desktop effects fall back to an non-accelerated backend XRender. The information about the used driver is available through KInfoCenter. The information is provided by the driver and can be difficult to parse.
With the fglrx driver not all functionality is available and the performance in general seems to be better with the Mesa drivers. The recommendation is to always use Mesa drivers with desktop effects. The Mesa drivers exist in an older and newer version. You should make sure to use the newer ones which you can identify by the word "Gallium" in the Renderer string.
The free drivers are still under heavy development and are not available on all distributions and for all hardware. In general it is recommended to use the proprietary drivers. Installing the driver is specific to the used distribution. Please consult the documentation of your distribution about that matter. KWin supports OpenGL 1. OpenGL 2 allows to use more effects, but requires stronger hardware. It is important to know that even if your driver only supports e. OpenGL 1.
